A three day journey to heaven

George, Caterina and I. Three backpackers who thought the Lonely Planet forgot to mention a bus, all tourists are stupid and that we could do it the Vietnamese way. With these three things in mind, we decided to go to Ba Be National Park.

After several days in Hanoi followed by a tour in Sapa we wanted to get off the tourist trail. We wanted to immerse ourselves in the mountainous heart of Northern Vietnam; so we decided to go to Ba Be National Park. The Lonely Planet’s description of “boasting mountains high, rivers deep and waterfalls, lakes and caves” convinced us immediately that that was the place to go. So we started organizing the trip by checking the information on Lonely Planet’s ‘Southeast Asia on a Shoestring’ guidebook.
